Facebook suspends Donald Trump's account for 2 years.

A statement from Facebook's vice president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, said: "We have decided to suspend his account for 2 years and it has been effective from January 7, 2021," he said. The company said it would review with experts whether Donald Trump's account would be restored after the suspension expires. According to Nick Gallagher, "We will examine all elements, including incidents of violence, restrictions on peaceful protests and other issues.

If we feel that there is still a serious threat to public safety, we will extend this ban We will keep reviewing the situation. He added that when the account is restored, a mechanism will be set up to take action against Donald Trump for violating Facebook policies. Under Facebook's new policy, accounts can be suspended for one month, six months, one year and two years.

Earlier, Facebook's autonomous board had decided to uphold the ban on former US President Donald Trump on social media platforms. The Independent Oversight Board said Donald Trump had created an environment on social media platforms that posed a serious threat of potential violence.

However, the board said that it was not appropriate for Facebook to suspend the accounts indefinitely and that the company should review the matter and make an appropriate decision within six months. "It is not appropriate for Facebook to keep a user away from the platform indefinitely, during which there is no time limit or account restoration criteria," the ruling added. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced in a post on January 7 that he would block Donald Trump's accounts indefinitely on his platform.

This is the first time that such an action has been taken against the account of a US President by Facebook. The former US president's Facebook and Instagram accounts were permanently blocked on January 8 when his supporters rioted on Capitol Hill in Washington, killing five people, including a police officer. Facebook initially blocked the US president's Facebook and Instagram accounts for 24 hours, but then the ban was extended indefinitely.
